I'm just a guy who has a passion for producing videos that capture the adventure of all forms of cycling (especially fat biking) and other outdoor endurance pursuits.
“If It Was Easy Everyone Would Do It” is often heard from those who enjoy meeting difficult challenges and persevering when others might not.
This is what motivates me as an endurance junkie and videographer!
Here a few drone view pictures shared by Wayne Bishop of 2 Wheel Revolution showing some of the recent development at Bison Butte (located at Fort Whyte Alive in Winnipeg) that he has been helping Alex Man and others accomplish recently.
Check it out:
If you see Wayne, Alex or any of the volunteers; make sure you say a huge thanks!
Well now, it appears Dave Cushnie is our Manitoba ‘Poster Fat Boy’ for really riding his fatbike all year! This recent picture he shared of him ‘Rolling His Fatty on the Beach” near Grand Marais gets the honours this month (again) for “Fat Photo of the Month“:
Btw, check out the mini ‘icebergs’ still remaining in Lake Winnipeg!
So Dave Cushnie (local fatbiker and avid fatbike single-track groomer – we appreciate his efforts at Grand Beach especially) has been posting some saweet pictures online as he continues to ride in the Grand Marais, Manitoba area including on still frozen Lake Winnipeg …
Thanks for sharing your rides Dave – looks pretty inviting to me!
Check out the ‘Bicycling Magazine‘ article by Polar Explorer Eric Larson, who I met in our local MEC store a few months ago and chatted out fatbiking and possible future adventures …
Eric was in town to pick up some gear and then head out onto Lake Winnipeg to be Lead Instructor on his 2018 “Polar Travel Training Course” (which included our American fatbiking friend Bradley D. Paul, who took part in our “2017 Lake Winnipeg Fatbike Crossing & Campover” adventure).
Check out Eric’s video of that training course:
Back to the Bicycling Magazine article – check it out onlineHERE and below:
The Winnipeg Free Press newspaper on 31 Mar 2018 included an article called “A Reason to Ride” using some of Blake Anderson‘s excellent pictures he took during our “2018 ‘Alfred Barr’ Lake Winnipeg Fatbike Crossing & Campover“.
The 17 Wing Winnipeg Air Base “Voxair” Newspaper 21 Mar 18 Edition has an article called “Fatbikers Ride to Remember SAR Tech MCpl Alfred Barr” based on the reporter Martin Zeilig interviewing me and using a few of my pictures.Among the quotes he used were references to our excellent Leaders Team (including our British friend Patrick Stevens from Sweden) and key supporters Robert Paige of Xtreme Sports Medics and Dave MacDonald of ICSOS.
He did not quote my mentioning of how important was Kevin Champagne‘s snowmobile and sled support for transporting key supplies out to our camp and back! He also mentioned our American friend Thomas Woods who joined us, but obviously misplaced your specifics Thomas).
The Voxair also included a colour picture with a double line of fatbikers riding across the lake. They mistakenly mention in the caption that “Major Tom Kolesnik ‘leads’ the fatbikers …”, when in fact at the lead of the line of riders is Kurt Lehmann and Rick Shone.
Super casual group Fatty Fun Times were had out at one of our favourite group ride locations … Grand Beach Prov Park, Manitoba! Now that we have experienced a full winter of Fatbike-specific groomed singletrack trails at GBPP (thanks to Dave Cushnie, Marty Roy, Erich Enns, Kurt Lehmann, Wayne Bishop and many more), we are full of enthusiasm for the future! So today we rode, posed for pictures (and drone views), BBQ’ed and had fun socializing as a community of fatbike lovers! 🙂
Enjoy these pics (a bunch are Gregory ‘GMac’ McNeill’s of course):
Giddy up MB Fatties! Thanks to Dave Cushnie and Gord Buhr, there is a call to gather at Grand Beach Prov Park for some Fatbike riding on FB-Specific Groomed trails with some BBQ Fest Fun to follow!
Be ready to ride at the GBPP Winter (XC Ski) Trailhead Parking lot at Noon (12 Bells) tomorrow Sunday 11 March 2018 – Eh!
Take the East Gate exit to drive north when you approach Grand Beach Prov Park.
We will be riding on a Fatbike Single Track route that does not conflict with any of the XC Ski trails (since they are still being groomed and we do not have MB Parks access granted). This route has been groomed manually by a number of good folks like Dave Cushnie, Gord Buhr, Marty Roy, Erich Enns, Kurt Lehmann, Wayne Bishop and others I may not specifically know to credit.
To ensure that you enjoy your trail ride and don’t sink into the packed snow too much (and create ruts), please bring a fatbike (3.7 inch wide or wider tires) and keep the pressure low (8 PSI or lower).
After our ride we will enjoy our potluck BBQ (bring something to share) and chat about how great this winter fatbike season was and look to more fun ahead! 🙂
I for one, will be bringing a few camp chairs, wood, axe, firestarter, stove, frying pan, meat and drinks for after the riding fun! 🙂
