A huge shout out and congrats to all our fellow Manitoban Fatbikers who took on the challenge of the 2018 Arrowhead 135 Ultra Race which is super tough!
How tough is it? Well … “The Arrowhead 135 is recognized in the book “The World’s Toughest Endurance Challenges” by Richard Hoad and Paul Moore as one of the 50 toughest races in the world. It is a human powered Ultra Marathon taking place in the coldest part of winter in the coldest city in the lower 48 states.”
Well done Dan Lockery, David Ristau and Pete McAdams!

Special congrats to Dan Lockery, who as the 1st Place (Unsupported Category) Fatbike Finisher – WOW, super tough rider indeed!
Cheers, Fat Tom K
Lots of Manitobans conquered the always challenging 2017 Arrowhead 135 Ultra Race held in Northern Michigan.
How tough is the race, well I will just quote from their website:
“The Arrowhead 135 is recognized in the book “The World’s Toughest Endurance Challenges” by Richard Hoad and Paul Moore as one of the 50 toughest races in the world. It is a human powered Ultra Marathon taking place in the coldest part of winter in the coldest city in the lower 48 states. Our average finish rate is less than 50%, the finish rate for new racers is much lower.”
Congrats to Dan Lockery (2nd Place in the UnSupported Category), David Ristau, KC Turczak, Pete McAdams, Dallas Sigurdur, Sue Lucas and Thomas Woods (Honorary MB’n from MN)!

Fat Ian’s Post:
Several MFB regulars are racing Arrowhead 135 this coming Monday. Preview and a link to live tracking is posted here. Although the weather isn’t expected to be particularly cold on Monday (race starts in the morning), it will get colder over the race (cutoff is 60 hours). As well, the snow could be challenging: some fresh, some icy, some warm and slimy. Good times.
I’ll be volunteering at the third checkpoint (Mile 110) to witness the carnage. Will try to get some photos to post next week.
From all the Manitoba Fat Bikers: best wishes for the race to Al, Dallas, Dan, Hal, Lindsay, Morgan. Enjoy the ride and godspeed!
