A nice Sunday afternoon ride with Good People :)

Adrian Alphonso took today’s Nov 13th Fatbike Free Clinic riders through skill building techniques and shared his lifetime of experience of riding safely and correctly. Adrian, Tom Kolesnik, and Wayne Bishop from Two Wheel Revolution were on hand to talk about coming events this winter and how we can participate and support the local Fatbike scene here in Manitoba. It was a glorious day weather wise, and the trails in Whittier Park did not disappoint this large crew. Many happy faces out there 🙂

Wknd Rides 16-17 Jan 16: Fort Whyte Fatness and ACTIF EPICA Recon

Tom Kolesnik posted for Wayne Bishop and Dan Lockery:

YES it’s going to be really cold this weekend … PERFECT! Time to get out there and confirm your frigid weather gear setup, layering, anti-goggle-fogging techniques and how to eat and drink – still (dehydration/bonking are common in extreme cold rides).

So here’s your options:
FORT WHYTE:

Screen Shot 2015-12-13 at 10.48.04 PM
Ride the newly groomed trails (thanks Wayne Bishop) at Fort Whyte to practice and pack them for the Winnipeg Whyteout – Fat Forty Festival:
Sat and Sun at 10:30 AM – meet at the Fort Whyte Alive parking lot/cafe
Link to the Groomed Trail Map or try 2 Wheel Revolution

ACTIF EPICA:Dan Lockery on AE Recon Ride
Actif Epica Recon Ride with Dan Lockery and Pete McAdams.
Date: Sunday, January 17th, 2016
Time: 9:00am
Location: St-Pierre-Jolys, we will meet in the parking lot of Le Routiere restaurant (next to the Shell station).
Purpose: To scout/preview the Actif Epica course between St. Malo and St- Pierre-Jolys, along the Crow Wing Trail (note: this section is part of both the regular and long version of the route).
Important Note: All participants join us at their own risk (e.g. please be safe, wear appropriate winter riding clothing, a helmet, bring blinky lights for improved visibility, enough food and water for the ride and a basic repair kit). Citing a famous quote, “YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU”, so please respect the nature of a winter riding adventure, it can be unforgiving.
Hope to see you on Sunday!

First Singletrack Fatbike Trailride of the winter … Bur Oak Trail

Tom Kolesnik’s Post:

First Fat Bike single-track trail ride of the season on snow and it was a blast! Four of us (Wayne Bishop, Jason Carter and Mike Stiles) put in a few laps and kept the trail packing going while new snow kept falling and then another eight ‘fatties’ joined us for more sweet fatbIking and setting the trail for later riders. 🙂

Time for a revival?

Fat Cory’s Post:

Just seeing if anyone is still alive here. Anyone for a fattie ride on November 5th ?

  1. Yo Cory. Fattie season is upon us and yes we need to gather the herd soon. Unfortunately, I have plans on the Nov 5th, so no go for me, but I’m sure fatties will be a rolling …

  2. We’re planning a Fat Tire Bike ride for Tuesday at Grand Beach for 09:30.

  3. I would love to, but I am going to spend a lazy day with my girls. What is on the radar for this weekend?

  4. Heading out to Riding Mountain National Park (Whirlpool Lake) for a little camping and a whole lot of Fat Tire Actif Epica secret training

  5. I just got back from there

  6. Any snow out there?

  7. We did Reeve’s on Saturday. There was just the odd skiff here and there. All the mud at the bottom was frozen. The stream is still flowing pretty good. A non issue if you have water proof boots. There are some ice covered rocks you can inch across . We did the loop. I was really suggesting shuttling to avoid the climb back up.
We hit Brandon Hills on Sunday. Same conditions snow wise.

  8. Thanks for the info. We’re hoping to do Reeve’s as well. Did you do the road, Gorge Creek or Reeve’s in reverse on the way back up? There was a couple of cm’ s worth of snow coverage at Grand Beach today. More snow coming the next few days.

  9. We did full Reeve’s loop, then climbed to Jet junction.

  10. Ken can you email me?

  11. Check your email Cory.

  12. I did, and I sent you a reply. I just resent in case it was stuck in lala land.

  13. I am assuming you never got my email this time either? I am getting yours. Maybe my replies are going to your trash?
Anyhoo I was wondering how Whirlpool went? I had some questions. Is there still wood there to burn? Is the out house still open? Is the shelter still open? How was the road into Whirlpool?

  14. Nope, not getting your emails??? A tad too much snow to do Reeve’s. Went as far as we could on the North Escarpement. Firewood freshly stocked up at Whirlpool Lake. The out house stays open year round. Heated seat inoperative. The shelter at Whirlpool Lake is somewhat winterized (the 2 stoves help) The road in was snow covered bit doable.

Tues Oct 8, 2013 Ride

Fat Cory’s Post:

Ok lets rattle these branches again. I am riding anyways but company would be nice 😉 Let’s meet at the Forks at 6pm  and ride Whittier, then cut across to the Church Hill drive single track, then back to the Forks for a carb refuel. The west enders can meet at my place and ride out on Cornish path. Bring lights , a sense of humour , and money for beer.

Winter trail building

Fat Jon’s Post:

Hi everyone,

It has been over a year for me of not riding after a bad crash at Falcon Lake. It was way to long! I am looking to start back with some snow shoeing (trail building) and some winter single track riding. Bur Oak should be easy to keep packed with myself and a few friends out there weekly – the more traffic the better it is!

My bigger goal for the winter is to pack and build the winter single track at Grand Beach. I can only imagine how fun and beautiful the Grand Beach single track trail system will be! I can’t make it out often enough to snow shoe and pack the trails. I am hoping Manitoba Fatbikers can get it done together.

Please share your thoughts 🙂

Tues Nov 12 th Ride

Fat Cory’s Post:

Anyone up for a ride? There might even be snow !!!!! I was thinking of exploring the trails in the Assiniboine Forest.

Fat Wednesdays are here again

Fat Hal’s Post:

Wednesday night fat tire rides are gearing up again (no you don’t need a fat bike to join these rides, you just need to ride at a fat bike pace). What you do need to participate in these rides is the willingness to have some fun and some lights because it gets dark pretty darn early. For tomorrow’s ride we’ll meet in the parking lot in the Northwest corner of the park (like last year) at 7:30 and bomb around the trails of Ass forest and park.
